As someone once said, “It’s not the heat, but the humidity.” Either way, a little heat and humidity couldn’t stop the fun and action at this year’s “Dick Sojka Memorial” Golf Invitation at Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center. AGC of Iowa members once again demonstrated their generosity by raising a $26,000 at this year’s event!

The Foundation thanks Holmes Murphy & Associates for sponsoring the luncheon and awards presentation for the 11th consecutive year. The Foundation also wishes to thank Contech Construction Products, Inc., James W. Bell Company, Inc., Godbersen-Smith Construction Co., and Star Equipment, Ltd. whose generosity allowed golfers to stay cool and enjoy beverages while out on the course.

The winning foursome this year was the team of Todd Peterson, PCI; Kevin Boyle, LSB Insurance; Corey Block, The Travelers Companies; and Brad Steenhoek, Rinker Materials. These gentlemen shot a 12 under par 60. Congratulations to them and all of the day’s winners.

This year the putting tournament was modified so that all the golfers had an opportunity to navigate the “Putting Zone” and try to place their putt closest to the hole. Max Bowman of Star Equipment was the tournament winner a had one more chance to make a 50-foot putt and win $10,000. Max came up just inches to the left, I mean inches, of winning the whole ten grand. Thanks to Reilly Construction Company for sponsoring this exciting and challenging event.

As has been tradition, everyone had an opportunity to try and make a hole-in-one at two of the par 3’s that would have pocketed them $15,000. Everyone gave it their “best shot”, but unfortunately no one was able to score that elusive ACE. The Foundation thanks Clifton Gunderson LLP and Ziegler, Inc. for their support in sponsoring the special hole-in-one holes. Also, thanks to the ISU AGC Student Chapter members Mike Grimm, Jerry Van Oort, and Caleb Lyon for their assistance as this year’s hole-in-one witnesses.
